Incredible Trends In Meetings And Events 2023

Offline events have returned, but how have they changed the trends in meetings and events? The revitalised meetings landscape is drastically different from the past, according to a recent trends in group travel report from industry shark NDU Connect Meetings

The report highlights the following major meetings and events trends based on proprietary data and industry interviews:

  • Leisure travel is recovering more slowly than business travel. However, data suggests that the MICE industry will return in 2022 and beyond. According to Amadeus data, hotel RFPs grew by 51% in 2021 compared to 2020.
  •  Fewer huge groups of 500 individuals or more are on the horizon. Small meetings with 30 to 50 people are becoming more popular.
  • Booking windows have shrunk significantly. The average duration from RFP to the event date in 2019 was 223 days; in 2021, it was 193 days.
  • Hybrid gatherings will thrive in the future. With improved technology, event planners can now offer “professional-grade” hybrid events, which will dramatically increase return on investment.
  • The meetings industry is still based on relationships. A vigorous recovery of group travel depends more than ever on the partnership between hoteliers and planners.
  • As more organisations move away from corporate headquarters and campuses, there is a greater demand for out-of-the-office meeting space. Smaller boutique hotel chains are exploring methods to create planning relationships while also hosting these modest corporate meetings.

Technology can automate and streamline the whole meeting and event lifecycle, from the moment planners submit the property a complete RFP through the onsite preparation and administration of the event itself, to the maintenance of an ongoing supplier-planner relationship
